What Enersight has Been Working on

The WellSpring development team has been extremely busy.  We now have four programmers, and everyone is working hard to provide improved workflows and an even more intuitive look and feel to the software.

We have had a great year for adding new clients, and their “new user” feedback has been invaluable in making the application easier to use.  Please remember we are always looking for feedback and user ideas.  Send them along at any time to support@enersight.com

With that said, here are some of the highlights of the new software:

Wellspring New Data Entry Look and Feel

WellSpring has just undergone a major upgrade on the workflow and interface for entering Asset Data. Data dialogs now float in front of the current window, allowing you to use the hierarchy or Network view to select assets while keeping the data editor open and in the foreground.

This new interface functionality significantly reduces the number of mouse clicks required to update data in several wells, making the user experience that much better.

Updates to the Drilling Tab

Wellspring has added a few very useful features to the drilling and rig scheduling workflows, while improving other existing items.   The new items include:

  • Filters to focus the user on the drilling groups they need to adjust, while hiding all the other groups.
  • Ability to define a set of template wells, and then have that set repeated a given number of times.  This makes forecasting future development much easier.
  • Inheritance of land information for each drilled well, allowing a single type well to be used for various WI locations.

Update Risk and Sensitivity Functionality

Wellspring now has a significantly expanded risking capability to help users evaluate the sensitivity of their projects to various uncertainties.   Many clients have been using this to test the robustness of their projects to price and cost fluctuations.   The new system includes the ability to simultaneously deal with multiple sensitivity variables and plot them in a single graph.

Evaluating the Combined Effect of both Production and Capital on the Value of your Assets

Another new feature is the ability to define the “Base” outcome for the sensitivities,  allowing you to run sensitivities around any of the defined risk outcomes from your project, (None, High, Base or Low project risk outcomes).

The risk and sensitivity user interface has also been improved by clearly defining what is impacted by the specific settings and the level at which they apply.   Reporting now supports all three interest levels (Gross, WI and Net) and includes even more risk results indicators.

New Risk Settings Interface is More Intuitive with Better User Control:

New Purchase Price Functionality

Need to get a clear understanding of what can be paid for a new acquisition?  Want to take into account your desired returns (IRR, PI, NPV etc) and the tax implications of the purchase?   The new Purchase price calculation makes it very easy to evaluate a range of purchase prices, and the impact on your total return, for an entire Project or any given Scenario of a Project.

You can also divide your purchase investment into multiple capital types, to take into account the tax benefit a portion of your bid will generate. The user interface has also had a significant improvement, making the user experience much more intuitive including clearly defining what is impacted by the specific settings and the level at which they apply.   Reporting has also been improved to support all 3 interest levels (Gross, WI and Net) and include even more risk results indicators.

The target bid can be sent back to the project/scenario as a new Asset.  These can be easily included or excluded from the economic calculations by using the new “Exclude from Calculations” setting.  This is used to keep type wells, interest inheritance assets and purchase price assets from being included in the project or scenario economic values. Another simple be very useful improvement in the new software.

New Alberta Royalties

WellSpring’s fiscal model for conventional production in Alberta has been updated to include the Transitional Royalties. Further updates are underway to incorporate the latest incentive programs announced by the government.

Exclude Target Bid from Calculations to Maintain Existing Evaluation Results

Updated Peep and Aries Exports

WellSpring is being used by several companies where third party corporate economics systems are still used for PDP forecasting and other corporate processes.  Typically in these situations, WellSpring is being used for projects with significant development activity or where facility limitations affect production delivery.

Clients are able to see significant cost savings in the evaluation of these development assets, and improved communication between disciplines.  By using WellSpring as the development project tool, facilities engineers, marketing, planners and reservoir engineers can use a single software system to clearly communicate the assumptions used in any given evaluation.
