 Shale Gas Drill to Fill

This example is a variation of the Shale Gas Development Pacing Project.  The same wells and facilities will be used, but we will be adding a fill facility task in place of the 'Drilling Pad Wells' task (If only doing this example, you can skip the step that creates that task).  Please refer to the link to build the project and enter data into the network, as this will be an addition of the same project.  After you have the project made, copy the scenario and name the new scenario 'Drill to Fill'.

Drill to Fill

A few things are required to run a drill to fill project.  You must have a facility with wells upstream of it, and that facility must have a constraint.

- First we are going to delete the 'Drilling Pad Wells' task, and replace it with a fill facility task (the fill facility task will be conditioned FinishStart with the HBP drilling program, See Scheduler Conditions).  The condition will be added in the drilling program within the Fill Facility task, so the Task List will not re-arrange.

- In this case, we are going to choose the 'Gas Sales' pipeline, which has a constraint of 30 mmcf/d (See Constraints). From the scheduler tab, create a Fill Facility task.  The task will be named 'Fill Facility' as default, so leave it as is for this example.

Next, we are going to take the production Well List from the .xls file below.
FillFacility.xls

Take the well list from the excel document and insert it into the Fill Facility Well List, which can be found in the drilling program tab of the Fill Facility Task.

After you have pasted from excel into WellSpring, you will have a well list like this:

Since there are 40 wells in the well list, we must create a well task that indicates that 40 well copies are being created.  To do this open the 'Well Task' tab and [Add Well Task] enter in the following information:

The last to do is to add steps to our fill facility program.

Step 1:

Step 2:

Step 3:

Conditions

Within the drilling program of the Fill Facility task, there is a place to input conditions.  At this location, create a condition of FinishStart with the HBP Drilling Program.

Results

Once you are finished creating your Fill Facility task, calculate and view results.  The Graph will have a saw-tooth like top, because as wells are falling below the Facility capacity trigger, other ones are brought on.

By changing the Facility capacity trigger from 95% to 105% and the maximum refill target from 105% to 120%, you can have a program that allows excess deliverability.
