What's New - Dec. 2009
Welcome to the expanded Wellspring.
New Features
This version has several new capabilities, the most notable being Activity Scheduling, User Functions, and Bulk Data Loading.
Activity Scheduling
A new tab has been added to WellSpring to support the scheduling of the activities for major integrated development plans. The Scheduler tab lets you create and link tasks so that a field development plan with associated facility construction plans can be parameterized and created dynamically within your WellSpring project.
The basic building block of an activity schedule is the task. Several tasks are available to create drilling programs (detailed drilling and rig scheduling, fill facilities drilling, and pad-based drilling) or construction projects (facility construction, facility expansion, ongoing maintenance, and changing well performance curves). A task defines the cost and duration of the activity, along with the governing conditions and the required resources .
The schedule of the tasks can be set explicitly by date or dynamically calculated using conditions. Activity conditions link tasks together by establishing when a task can start or, with facility construction projects, when it is required to complete. Each task also defines what resources are required for completion, and the associated availability and costs.

User Functions
User functions in WellSpring provide the means to insert custom calculations into the project model. User functions can be applied to operating costs, capital expenditures, production constraints, and durations for tasks and capital expenditures. User functions can be built using the function editor, which is activated by clicking on the fn tag beside the data input. User functions have several mathematical operators, can access results from other assets in the scenario, and can reference User-Defined Data.
User-Defined Data is custom data that is outside the standard input data set for WellSpring and is used to provide reporting parameters for filtering or input data for custom user functions. It can be in the form of a number (double, integer), a checkbox (Boolean), text (string), array (time series, table) or date. User data can be defined at the Company, Project or Asset level in WellSpring. Project-level data can be further defined to apply to all asset types or to specific asset types (wells, facilities, project links, scenarios or the project).

Bulk Data Loading
Getting started with WellSpring may involve bringing mass quantities of data into your projects. This is best achieved using the bulk data loader accessed from the Data Import/Export section of the Projects tab. This feature will take you through the process of referencing a spreadsheet and mapping the spreadsheet data to the WellSpring data. Once the mapping is complete, you will be able to upload the data and have WellSpring automatically create or update assets in your projects as required.
